JUNIORS

What is Nippers?

Every parent wants their child to lead a happy, healthy and active youth. There is no better place for this than introducing your child to surf lifesaving and Nippers.

Nippers is all about learning, confidencfe and having fun in a seafe beach environment. For Nippers, the beach is the classrooom. They gain confidence by passingthe 'tests' of swimming, body boarding, beach sprints, dolphin-diving, spotting a rip, having fun with new friends and discovering things about themselves.

Nippers is a junior program that introduces children aged 5 to 13 to surf lifesaving. It's a fun outdoors activity that grows a child's confidence, teaches valuable life skills and knowledge. Every surf lifesaving club around Australia offers a Nippers program, all with various styles and sizes.

The skills gained in Nippers will stick to the soul like sand from the beach and be carried for life.

The Nippers today are the future of surf lifesaving tomorrow. Nippers are Australian for life, are your kids?

HOW DO I BECOME A JUNIOR?    IT’S EASY!

Boys and girls aged Under 14 as at 1 October 2011 are eligible to join. Children must also be 5 years of age at the time of enrolment. If they are not 5 years old before the 1st of October they may join nippers on their 5th birthday up until December 31st.

Proficiency Requirements

Parents should remember that Junior Activities does not teach swimming. To participate in the water events and at any carnival, all Nippers must complete the Surf Education program, the timed pool swim and the run swim run. (See Junior Downloadable Forms for Proficiency Requirements for the 11-12 Season)

Proficiency swims maybe done with another Club as long as you have permission from your Club and take an Orange work card from your Club. It needs to be correctly endorsed and taken back to your Club so it can be processed in Surfguard.
